About Event

** This is a LIVE workshop. Attendees will be sent a video recording after the workshop. **

How can being “in the moment” benefit your writing? What are some direct and indirect benefits of mindfulness for writers?

Join us for a 60-minute workshop with mindfulness teacher Liz Kalaugher. We’ll explore how to boost your sensory awareness, and why mindfulness is an invaluable tool for quieting the inner critic, dealing with deadline pressure, and handling the ebbs and flows of writing life.

Writers will leave the workshop with:

  • A greater understanding of what mindfulness is and how it can help your writing and daily life

  • Practical experience of mindfulness exercises, including mindful eating and mindful breathing

Participants should bring a small item of foodstuff, such as a raisin or peanut. If possible, the workshop should be accessed somewhere quiet where participants won’t be interrupted. Please bring a favourite notebook and pen.

About Liz Kalaugher

Liz Kalaugher is a mindfulness teacher accredited by Breathworks as well as a published non-fiction author, science journalist and enthusiastic unpublished fiction writer. Liz took up mindfulness during lockdown and has found her practice helps with the “I need to do 10,000 words this week so that’s 2,500 tomorrow and the next day and…” thoughts that used to run on a loop each time she finished writing for the day. Mindfulness also helps Liz quieten her inner editor as she gets words onto the page for the first time, appreciate the good aspects of her writing whilst still being aware of those she needs to change, and access a more relaxed and playful mindset where she can be more creative. Liz is confident that mindfulness can help your writing – and your daily life – too.
