Zine for Astoria: Collaborative Zine Making
Join us for an afternoon of collective memory-making as we co-create a zine about Astoria, featuring work by local artists, writers, and neighbors like you. Hosted by @astoria.place
✂️ What’s a zine?
A zine (pronounced zeen, short for magazine) is a homemade mini-magazine. Zines can include writing, collage, drawings, photos; anything you want to share. They can be messy or polished, simple or layered. Most importantly, they’re personal and made with care.
At this event, we will be making a zine about Astoria, together.
What do you love about living here?
What’s a story or small moment you always remember?
What feels like home in this neighborhood?
This zine is a collaborative art project rooted in mutual aid, care, attention, and archival practices. We’re coming together to document the textures of neighborhood life; the quiet things, the overlooked things, the beautiful ordinary.
You don’t need any experience, we’ll provide all materials. Bring your stories, writing, photos, sketches, found objects, or just yourself.
What we’ll do:
✶ Learn how to make a zine (from scratch!)
✶ Create individual pages together; writing, collage, drawing, scanning objects
✶ Practice gathering as care and creation as community
✶ Contribute to a zine that will be physically printed and shared in Astoria; a tangible artifact of collective presence
After the session, all pages will be collated and printed into a physical zine, a neighborhood document and art object we can hold, distribute, and archive.
🧭 Want to gather inspiration before the workshop?
We’re also hosting a Neighborhood Walk (1–2PM) before the zine-making session to collect materials and moments. A separate RSVP link is coming soon!
No required skills. All materials provided.
Feel free to bring any materials you want featured (paintings, writing you’ve already done, photos - digital copies are fine, we can print out photos at the studio, found objects in the neighborhood, local business visuals, etc.!)
