About Event

Our head of ops, Aušrinė, recently told me about mental health-focused startup Spill (which offers support for people through Slack) and how one of its team members gave a great talk to her community about Imposter Syndrome.

I had a chat with them and agreed that we’d host them for a talk on mental health (we should also be getting access to the Imposter Syndrome talk soon).

Spill’s consultant Maryna will be leading the talk :)

Title: 'Building strong mental health when life makes it difficult'

Time: 1 hour (45min talk, 15min questions)

Content: According to the data, many of us in today's Western world are becoming increasingly unhappy. This talk delves into reasons why, from the recent (opportunity cost, warped priorities) to the ancient (how our brains have evolved for survival rather than wellbeing). It then outlines concepts and practical tools from the fields of life coaching, CBT and psychotherapy that you can use to take your mental wellbeing into your own hands. The last section of the talk then looks specifically at the most common mental health issues during coronavirus times, including anxiety and loneliness.

Speaker: Maryna Omelchenko is a VC from DN Capital who holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Psychotherapy & Counselling from Regent's University, giving her both an academic understanding of psychology and a practical understanding of working life in tech. The material in the talk was compiled with the help of Spill's Head of Therapy.
