About Event

Join us for an invite-only celebration Operator's Human Unreadable exhibition at Uncommon Gallery during Frieze Seoul. The gallery presents a curated selection from the Human Unreadable collection while also highlighting the underlying creative and technical processes. The evening program includes a private tour of the show by Operator's Ania Catherine and a performance of the movement library by local dancer Teri Seo.

This exhibition is generously supported by two patrons of Operator, WCC and KarateKid_XYZ.

About Human Unreadable:
Human Unreadable is a three-act embodied generative artwork by American artist duo Operator.

Merging choreography, code, and blockchain, the work hides the human body in plain sight, culminating in a live performance. The collection contains 400 unique visual works and choreographic sequences generated by an algorithm using motion data. While the work appears organic, it is entirely created through code stored on the Ethereum blockchain.

The three acts represent a slow recovery of the human: Act I is the reveal on Art Blocks Curated; Act II uncovers choreographic scores via a secondary token-bound NFT; Act III showcases a live performance of the first 100 minted pieces.

Operator assembled a team of 25 individuals, including engineers and dancers, for the year-long realization of this Lumen Prize-winning artwork. Their On-chain Generative Choreography Method serves as the technical backbone of Human Unreadable. Historically, performance has been collectable only through artifacts or derivative documentation. Leveraging blockchain technology, Operator’s open-source method enables choreography to be collected as an art object.
