About Event

The Celtic Club is excited to continue its recent literary series of events with "An Evening With Mary Morrissy". Join us in the Members Bar on June 5th as Mary reads from her recent works including Penelope Unbound, a novel re-imagining  the life of Nora Barnacle, wife of author James Joyce – praised by Booker winner John Banville as a “masterwork” - and her most recent collection of short fiction Twenty-Twenty Vision.

About Mary Morrissy
Dublin-born Mary Morrissy is the author of four novels, Mother of Pearl, The Pretender, The Rising of Bella Casey and Penelope Unbound, and three collections of stories, A Lazy Eye, Prosperity Drive and most recently Twenty-Twenty Vision. Her work has won a Hennessy Award for short fiction and a Lannan Literary Foundation Award.

She trained as a journalist and has worked for three of Ireland’s national dailies.  She has taught widely in Ireland and the US, and was formerly Associate Director of Creative Writing at University College Cork. She’s a member of Aosdána, Ireland’s academy of arts and letters.
