About Event

Join us for a landmark event during the inaugural D.C. Climate Week, dedicated to elevating Tribal voices and perspectives in the national climate conversation. This gathering recognizes the urgent need for Indigenous peoples to have direct involvement in shaping climate policy and action, as well as support for connecting rural projects to the energy grid to enhance resilience.

Event Agenda Outline:

1:00pm - 1:15pm: Welcome & Opening Remarks

1:15pm - 1:35pm: Working with Tribes in Clean Energy

  • Presenters: Alisha O'Connell (Penobscot Nation and Passmaquaddy Tribe) & Sheiyenne Seegmiller (Navajo Nation)

  • Overview of best practices for collaborating with Tribes on clean energy projects and present a case study example.

1:35pm - 1:55pm: Legal Perspectives on Transmission, Interconnection, and Regulatory Initiatives

  • Presenters: Matt Gurch and Shailesh Sahay

  • Discussion of key regulatory issues, transmission, and interconnection

  • Overview of pro bono programs supporting under-resourced community projects, including Tribal energy development.

1:55pm - 2:30pm: Q&A and Closing

  • Open floor for audience questions

  • Session wrap-up and next steps centering Indigenous knowledge and leadership.

This event aims to bridge gaps between decision-makers and frontline communities, ensuring that climate solutions are inclusive, effective, and rooted in lived experience.
