About Event

Join us and be a part of this dynamic and inter-disciplinary alliance on August 7th at UTC 14:00 with Dr. Charles “Chip” Barber, Director for Natural Resources Governance and Policy at the World Resources Institute (WRI).

In this month’s EarthTeam Townhall virtual gathering, our spotlight speaker Dr Charles will introduce us to the Nature Crime Alliance and to the USAID-supported Countering Nature Crime project, which overlaps some with the work of the Alliance (2023-2027 Strategy).

Dr. Charles “Chip” Barber is Director for Natural Resources Governance and Policy at the World Resources Institute (WRI), a global policy research institution focusing on environment and sustainable development issues. Since October 2023 he has also served as Chief of Party for the USAID-supported “Countering Nature Crime” initiative, a joint project with the Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA), the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) and the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership (SFP).

Prior to joining WRI Chip served from 2009 to 2014 as Forest Division Chief in the U.S. Department of State. From 2005 to 2009, he worked with USAID on multilateral environmental affairs. He has also worked as a consultant for many international organizations, and previously worked at WRI from 1989 to 2001, mostly based in Southeast Asia. Dr. Barber received his Ph.D. in Jurisprudence and Social Policy, J.D., and M.A. in Asian Studies from the University of California, Berkeley.
