About our speakers:
Les Alexander, President and CEO of BIC Indiana
Les Alexander, brings financial, operations, and business development experience to the Battery Innovation Center. Over the last thirty plus years, Les has held executive positions at Navitas Systems (VP Research and Development and Government Business Development), Inmatech (CEO) (Supercapacitor start up), A123 Systems (GM Government Business), and T/J Technologies (COO). He has developed an expertise with energy storage startups and mid-size companies, strategically focused on growing R&D, and product development opportunities for the U.S Military and commercial markets.
Alexander is a retired Lieutenant Commander as U.S. Naval Supply Corps Officer who served in the Persian Gulf War. He has managed large military budgets and programs for aircraft carriers and military bases. He is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, with a B.A. in Economics, and he holds a Master’s degree from the Naval Postgraduate School in Government Acquisitions.
John Frankel, Founding Partner at ff Venture Capital
John Frankel is a technology investor. He is passionate about working with founders that are building the big businesses of tomorrow.
He founded ff Venture Capital in 2008 to work with founders who share this vision, which has since funded over 150 seed and early-stage companies that have in turn created thousands of jobs and impacted the lives of millions. While ff Venture Capital’s investments span a number of industries, John is currently fascinated by applied artificial intelligence, encompassing drones, robotics, and financial services technology.
Over the years, John has served on the boards of over sixty companies as well as the NYU Tandon School of Engineering, to help in further fostering the New York City ecosystem.
Prior to founding ffVC, John had a long career at Goldman Sachs in a variety of roles that involved technology development, business reengineering, and capital markets. He has had the unique opportunity to work closely with some of the world’s leading investors, and as a result has developed a keen understanding of emerging technologies and portfolio risk/return management.
After graduating from New College Oxford in 1982 with a Masters in Mathematics and Philosophy, John worked at Arthur Anderson and qualified as a Fellow Chartered Accountant. Today, John enjoys traveling and is blessed with a large and growing family.

Michael previously served as the CEO & COO of Rothschild & Co. Asset Management U.S., Inc., and Global Partner of Rothschild & Co. Prior to Rothschild & Co., Mr. Woods served as CEO of DWS Investments and Head of the Americas, Global Client Group, for Deutsche Asset & Wealth Management.
Mr. Woods is the Chair of the Long Island Chapter for Tiger 21, a global peer-to-peer learning community of entrepreneurs, wealth creators, and investors. He is also a member of the Board of Directors, and the Chair of the Finance Committee for the Business Council for International Understanding based in New York City and Washington, DC, and a Board Member and Chair of the Development and Communications Committee of The Korea Society based in New York City. Mr. Woods is a member of both The Leadership Council and the Small Business Technology Council for the National Small Business Association (NSBA) in the U.S., and a member of the Global Executive Consultation Group of the Blue Dot Network, a division of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) based in Paris. Mr. Woods is a 2018 honoree of the “New York Responsible 100 Award” and a member within the “Top 100 Innovators & Entrepreneurs Magazine” for 2023. He previously served on the Board of Directors of The New York Metropolitan Opera, The Children's Village in New York City and The Big Brothers Big Sisters Organization of Massachusetts Bay. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business from Taylor University located in Upland, Indiana, where he is a member of their Board of Visitors. Mr. Woods resides on Long Island, NY, with his wife, Jennifer, and twin daughters.
