The vision of "Viksit Bharat" (Developed India) by 2047 is closely tied to the modernization and transformation of the infrastructure & transportation sector, with Indian Railways being at the heart of this transformation. Through robust Investments in Innovation & Technology adaptation, Infrastructure enhancement, strategic initiatives, Industry Collaborations & Long-term investment, Indian Railways is set to redefine its role in the global transportation landscape also. Indian Railways can achieve new heights in passenger and freight transport, fostering inclusive growth, job creation, and sustainability by significant advancements in Civil Engineering that enhance the efficiency, safety and reliability of the railway infrastructure, while modernizing the railway system further in alignment with global standards.
Over the years, several initiatives have been already been undertaken, encompassing various aspects such as Modern Technology, State of the Art Infrastructure, Quality Passenger Amenities, Modern Stations, Enhancing Freight Revenue, New Made in India Train Sets- Vande Bharat Trains, Enhanced Safety Measures & Technologies {e.g. Kavach}, New Tracks, Mega Electrification Drive, Infrastructure upgradation, Fast tracking of Redevelopment of Stations-Amrit Bharat scheme, Gati-Shakti Plan - National Master Plan for multi-modal connectivity, Major Capex allocation in budgets and many more growth initiatives.
Indian Railways' journey towards becoming a key player in India's vision of "Viksit Bharat" is multifaceted and while several advancements have already been made, there's a continued need for much more strategic planning to achieve the desired level of growth & modernization in line with global standards.
