How to Network with Key Decision-Makers without Leaving Your Desk

Hi everyone,

I organize a weekly 60-minute networking event on Zoom. It’s like a lunch and learn, but for networking.

Who this is for

This networking event is for my LinkedIn network and any professional looking to grow theirs. My network leans toward public servants and professionals in technology, consulting, finance, legal, accounting, and private capital.

What this event is

The goal is to build new relationships. We do this by eating lunch and hanging out before going back to work. The vibe is chill, making it easy to form a new connection or ask for a warm introduction.

What not to do

This isn’t a webinar, panel, case study, or product pitch. Just show up, eat, and chat.

What to do

Talk about anything. What you're eating, a recent trip, a funny story, or something personal, like how your kid won their last softball game.

Agenda

  • Intro (10 min): Rapid introductions

  • Eat (30 min): Break into groups of four

  • Network (20 min): Jump around tables

  • Wrap-up (up to 60 min): The call stays open for last-minute conversations

Format

  • This is an audio-only event, so it’s easy to join from anywhere. Please keep your video off.

  • Some segments may be recorded or streamed live for others to tune in later.

Why attend

  1. Free – Similar to the value you’d get at a tech or investor conference, but free, weekly, time-bound, and no travel.

  2. Fresh – New decision-makers show up every week from accounts you’re likely trying to reach or logos you don’t have.

  3. Fun – Who will you eat lunch with, and what will you talk about when there’s no way to prepare in advance?

In the last six months, my live events have reached more than 200,000 attendees. My most recent series (January 9–30, 2025) had 2,056 attendees, averaging 186 per event. This shows how many professionals are looking for a simple, effective way to network.

How do I ask for a warm intro?

Focus on eating and having a good time. Connections will happen naturally.

I need to be prepared. What can I do?

Sigh. If you follow the instructions above, you don’t need to prepare. But if you insist, make a one-page Google Doc with:

  • Contact info

  • I’m currently:

  • I need help with:

  • This is important because:

  • Three people I need an intro to:

  • Messages I’ve already prepared for them:

  • Link to slides, data, etc.:

Anything else I need to know?

No. That’s it for now.
