About Event

These monthly meet-ups are for sharing new ideas, experiments, events and more. Each month there will be one-word theme.

This month that theme is Citizenship.

Citizen Design

We currently operate within capitalist driven societies and cannot use these existing parameters to redefine and explore the places to start. We need new models and processes to unpack Design with Citizens.... and Citizen Design.

Part of regenerative practices include how we work with others, supporting communities, locations and place-based situations to lead on regenerative practices that benefit them and our place-based scenarios. One size fits all approaches do not always work, and we should not feel pressure to: co-create, design, enact those metrics of success.

Those intentions and capitalism are always at odds and we need dialogues and sharing examples that are working. This 'dialogue' spins out of The Ecological Citizen(s) Network and shares different examples of 'Citizen Design' as we believe that 'citizenship' is enacted by practice, dialogue and choice... designing with... not for.

This session has two parts: 1) Sharing examples and unpacking a few with the details of how they started. 2) Welcomes you to bring and share examples you have seen of 'Citizen Design', where a platform or process has been created to enact positive choices with citizens... benefiting them and each other, rather than conventional capitalist models.

Speakers: This session is led by Dr. Rob Phillips, the principal investigator of the Ecological Citizen(s) project, a senior tutor on the Design Futures programme at the RCA and a STEPS founding member.

The intention is to foreground attendees' views of the Easy Place To Start, as by attending and contributing, you are a Citizen of the STEPS collective. We truly believe that we host 'a' perspective rather than 'the' perspective and look forward to the pro-active dialogue, through your cultures, locations and perspectives.
