Self-compassion comes in many forms and the most common ones we hear are - “love yourself”, “forgive yourself”, “take time off for yourself”... basically very beautifully chosen positive words but in their real essence - be selfish. Let’s remove the negative stigma over the word “selfish” and explore together how being selfish is the truest form of self-compassion.
ANGIE ANG
Angie is an ecosystem builder and an active youth advocate in Brunei specifically through the startup and creative scene. Angie is currently the Training Associate of the Golden Equator Consulting arm in Brunei specialising in bootcamps and masterclasses for budding startup entrepreneurs.
She mentors with Brunei Mentors for Entrepreneurs Network (BMEN) which is a subset of ASEAN Mentorship for Entrepreneurs Network set up by the ASEAN Business Advisory Council to put together operative ecosystem at a national and regional level to encourage partnership between the MSME and corporate giants.
Angie also mentors with Young Professionals Network Brunei (YPNBrunei) and is one of the Core Team members. YPN Brunei has grown to become a trusted ally of the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sport of Brunei hosting active online and in person series of mentoring, life coaching, leadership townhalls, and amplifying the voices of the youth in redefining professionalism and what it means to be a professional.
Co-founding the Brunei startup ecosystem and creating a niche for herself in breaking barriers for youth development have led Angie to be recognised as one of the – “33 under 33 women to watch in Brunei" (2017); inaugural cohort of Obama Leaders in Asia Pacific (2019); Leader of Southeast Asia Women (2020); and The Bruneian's “50 most influential and inspiring LinkedIn icons” (2020). She was appointed in December 2020 as a member of the National Youth Policy and Strategy Advisory Group. Most recently in March 2021, co-started the Gender Equality Movement: APAC with her fellow APAC Obama Leaders.
She was previously the Legal Executive of HEP Law dealing with various corporate and commercial matters, and had a portfolio of corporate clients including Government Ministries, Government-Linked Companies, banks and financial institutions, as well as regional and international companies. Angie was also previously with Nottingham City Council as an Information Governance Officer and her portfolio included working with the Data Protection Act 1998 and the Freedom of Information Act 2000, as well as preparing briefs for the Nottingham Tribunals in relation to social security and employment cases. She also did pro bono with the Nottingham Law School’s Legal Clinic twice a week with the Creative IP team aiding and advising on legal drafting for startups and intellectual properties.
She obtained her LLB (Honours) from the Bangor University, Wales in 2014; and did her Master in Law simultaneously with the Legal Practice Course at Nottingham Trent University in 2015.
