Topic
Creating innovative ideas was thought to be a designer’s secret. Researchers have been studying the process of design by uncovering the designer's way of thinking. In 1991, IDEO, one of the leading design consultancy firms, applied such research to business, named the method Design Thinking and stated that everyone can be a designer by following that method. Yet, as a professional designer, I have felt there is a gap between a professional designer and a non-designer in the quality and quantity of ideas in idea creation. We can’t avoid talking about AI, and some research suggests that we can create better ideas by collaborating with AI. As a designer, I am very curious to explore how AI could support our creativity and how it could change the designer's way of thinking.
In this workshop, we will focus on designing feedback experiences for digital products by collaborating with AI and using a design technique of analogy. At the end of the workshop, we will discuss how we could collaborate with AI to create better design ideas, and what type of activities AI is good at and what humans are good at.
Potential application to your research
Design is a way to observe, think and create. You can apply idea creation method and analogy to design your research method in your research area. By doing so, you might be able to find a breakthrough approach to your research question, which will add uniqueness to your research.
Output of this workshop
The output of this workshop will be a rough drawing or rapid prototype to illustrate the concept. This is not a workshop to design a website or app. If you are interested in making a website and app, please look at the workshop "Design a website to introduce your research using the Oxford Design System."
