About the Talk:
This talk will cover some of our recent work—from the archive of the world's most recorded jazz bassist, to tools for pandemic prevention. It also will examine how the field has changed in the fifteen years since starting Fathom, and how we're taking what we've learned from working with clients across a vast range of fields, and using that to build tools for understanding data.

About the Speaker:
Ben Fry is the owner and principal of Fathom Information Design, a studio in Boston focused on making complex data more understandable, accessible, and usable. He holds a Ph.D. from the MIT Media Laboratory, and since 2016 has taught at MIT as a lecturer. Fry has authored and co-authored multiple books, several of them on the topic of Processing—a coding platform he co-founded in 2001, building its community and supporting millions of users before stepping down in 2023. His work can be found in museums (MoMA, Whitney, Cooper Hewitt), feature films (Minority Report, The Hulk), research labs (Harvard, Stanford, MIT), and the portfolios of Fathom's clients such as Nike, Samsung, DARPA, and Mayo Clinic. In 2011, Fry visited the White House to receive the National Design Award for Interaction Design.
