Beyond The Code
Curious about research, graduate studies, or what lies beyond your undergrad? Join Discord for more updates (Join here https://discord.gg/JCSNB5GB9G). Join us for the launch of Beyond the Code, a new student-led reading group designed to make research more accessible and engaging for undergraduates.
In our next session, we’re excited to host Ning Shi, PhD student at the University of Alberta with Prof. Grzegorz Kondrak, as they present an informal talk:
“The Equivalence of Tasks in Sentential Semantics”
Join us to explore how different tasks in natural language understanding are connected at a fundamental level, and what this means for future research in computational linguistics and AI. The talk will be accessible to undergraduates, with plenty of time for questions and discussion.Open to all UAlberta students — no prior research experience required!
About the Reading Group:
Beyond the Code is a biweekly reading group hosted by UACS that introduces undergraduates to approachable CS research topics. Each session features a presentation led by an upper-year undergrad or grad student, followed by open discussion and Q&A. It’s a place to explore new ideas, demystify academia, and grow your academic curiosity — all in a friendly and inclusive space.
Reading materials (if any) will be shared via the UACS Discord in advance of future sessions.
