Neurodivergents Unite
Overall purpose:
To provide a safe space free of judgement where neurodivergents (millennials and Gen Z)from all backgrounds can gather together, have insightful discussions, share ideas, and connect. It's also free!
Who is this for?
This group is primarily aimed at Millennials and Gen Z who are diagnosed with or suspect that they have a neurodivergent condition. These include autism, ADHD, dyslexia, among others.
Duration: 2 hours
The event is divided into three rounds:
Round 1: Ice-Breaker Dialogue
Attendees will answer card prompts in small groups. If time permits, they can answer them all, and go their own direction in the discussion. These prompts are mostly light in tone.
Round 2: Words and Symbols Guessing Activity
Flipbooks will be provided during this round. For this activity, one person will come up with a specific noun or action. The more specific and niche, the more fun!
They will draw a representation of what they come up with on page one. They will hand it to the next person, who then has to write out what they believe the drawing represents on the next page.
The second person hands the book over to the next person still on the previous page. This person will draw their representation of the word and then hand it to the next person.
This cycle between words and pictures goes until it gets back to the original person. Then, every page from the beginning is compared to see if things match up.
Round 3: Deeper Dicussions
Like Round 1, this round involves being in groups and answering prompt questions. However, the questions are more serious in nature, and are mainly related to aspects of life as a neurodivergent.
End:
A closing discussion and upcoming announcements.
Breaks and sensory accommodations: There will be breaks lasting around 5-10 minutes in between rounds to give people time to decompress and loosen up before the next round.
People are encouraged to excuse themselves as needed during a round to take a sensory break. Also, fidget/stim toys are encouraged if they help. We want everyone to feel comfortable and safe. Of course, if you need to leave the event early for any reason, that is completely understandable.
