Greatnes Series: Peter Corbett
Join us for an insightful conversation with Peter Corbett (@corbett3000), the retired founder of iStrategyLabs (a digital agency) which he sold to WPP in 2016. He’s since been an investor and advisor to consumer and media startups, and has served as a hospice volunteer, working with the sick and dying.
My story with Peter: My story with Peter: I felt disoriented after the final meditation of the 7-day wellness retreat I attended two years ago. It was one of my most profound and, at the same time, painful experiences in my life. It was as if I got to experience my deepest fears in the physical realm. All I wanted to do in that moment was to be free from those fears, to let go of my guilt and shame, and to forgive myself for my prior mistakes.
But I couldn’t. My mind was resisting the shift and continued to hold on tight to my past. I felt exhausted, tired of fighting with my thoughts. I closed my eyes and was prepared to admit the defeat. When I opened them, I saw Peter sitting next to me. I could feel his love and compassion for me. The warmth was starting to spread throughout my body and bringing me peace.
Prior to that day, I would’ve never believed that one may “feel” the true nature of the other person. Dr. Joe Dispenza, Dr. Bruce Lipton, and other renowned neuroscientists talk about energy fields and how we’re connected with one another. I had read about these things before, but that day in Costa Rica I experienced it first hand for the first time. Such was the beginning of my friendship with Peter.
Peter's own journey: Being a 37-year-old retiree has its perks for sure, but with such privilege also come new challenges. Unbeknownst to Peter himself, his self-worth was so tied up with his former profession and status that the separation from the company he had founded felt like no other pain he had experienced.
Letting go of the old programs takes dedication, time, and significant effort. Determined to put his knowledge, experience and energy to good use, Peter embarked on a new journey – away from his old ways serving himself to supporting others. The process of becoming his genuine generous self has been unfolding for several years now, during which time Peter continued to chip away the scraps he had built up through early childhood trauma, boarding school, college, and his career.
Peter has been a big influence in my life and has taught me valuable lessons, chief among which is the value of kindness and generosity. We’ll dive deep into Peter’s transition from running a multi-million dollar business to training for hospice; coaching founders, creators, and people from various walks of life; and pursuing philanthropy. Peter will share about the events leading up to one of the biggest changes in his life, what sparked the transition, and how took the first step to creating more meaning in his life.
