AIFOD Silicon Valley Chapter Seminar: AI, Data, and Sovereignty – Corporate Power vs. National Rights
In an era where artificial intelligence and big data are reshaping the global landscape, questions of sovereignty and power dynamics have become increasingly complex. This seminar aims to explore the delicate balance between corporate interests and national rights in the realm of AI and data. As we witness the rapid advancement of AI systems, a crucial question emerges: How will developing nations protect their data sovereignty in the face of growing corporate influence?
Our discussion will center on the strategies that countries in the Global South can employ to safeguard their digital future. We’ll examine the challenges these nations face in maintaining control over their data resources while still fostering innovation and economic growth. The seminar will delve into topics such as
data localization policies
international data flow regulations
and the development of domestic AI capabilities, with a focus on how these issues intersect with national interests and cultural values
This event is being co-organized and sponsored by Northeastern University’s Silicon Valley Campus, and we are honored to have the support and contributions of esteemed academics in the field. We extend our sincere gratitude to Professor Ricardo Baeza-Yates and Professor John Alexis Guerra Gómez for their invaluable input in shaping the seminar and their organizational support.
