Money has the potential to make or break a relationship 💸💔

Understanding the relationship you and your partner individually have with money is critical to having an open dialogue, so both parties can flourish in a relationship together.

Your money stories are heavily influenced by the household you grew up in–specific to Asian households, this could have looked like:

💸 Ruptured family ties due to lending money and not getting paid back
💸 Using money only for practical purposes (i.e. education) and hardly ever for “frivolous” things that could bring joy (i.e. toys)
💸 Being savvy with stretching resources for survival

These experiences in childhood could translate into hardwired beliefs in adulthood, like viewing money as:

👺 Evil, resulting in extremely rigid boundaries in relationships
🛡 Only a safeguard for a rainy day, resulting in joy being withheld
⏳ A limited resource, resulting in scarcity mindset

We must retire certain money stories to build a life that is abundant for ourselves and our partner, and relationships can be a place where we have the opportunity to change our narrative around money.

Relational dynamics facilitators, Kevin and Stephanie will unpack these themes in this Brave Conversations session. We’ll specifically explore:

❤️‍🔥 Safety: Mindfulness and creating safety to explore differences in sensitive topics
❤️‍🔥 Tools for relating: Support over Solving Principle by Relating Between the Lines
❤️‍🔥 Understanding beliefs: How they openly unpacked money beliefs to understand what each person values

It’s safe to say that Kevin and Stephanie’s Asian experience has lots of complexity, and while their experience isn’t representative of all Asian cultures, their intention is to create a space to normalize having conversations about these themes.
