Bold Eco Solutions: Diverse Minds Forum at Climate Week
Join us for an inspiring event during Climate Week in New York, hosted by the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation, that will convene a diverse and dynamic climate innovation ecosystem at the Brooklyn Navy Yard on Thursday, September 26th, from 2-4 pm ET. The forum is complementary to Newlab’s New Climate Futures event. As the climate industry continues to grow, we must address the underrepresentation of diverse voices: Sixty percent of climate policy and clean energy workers in the United States identify as non-Hispanic/Latino/a/x/e and White, while only 29.5% of environmental engineers are women. Despite these disparities, there are exceptional climate technology founders and operators of color, such as Etosha Cave of Twelve, Pilanda Watkins-Curry of Olokun Minerals, and Bomee Jung of CadenceOneFive, leading transformative solutions in carbon management, buildings, critical minerals, and more.
At the historic Brooklyn Navy Yard—a premier waterfront hub of urban manufacturing and innovation—we will celebrate community and culture while creating opportunities to network, learn from peers, and share unique insights from the diverse climate technology ecosystem. This event will spotlight the pivotal role urban industrial parks like the Yard play in the adoption, testing, and deployment of climate solutions that reflect and champion the brilliance of surrounding communities.
Event Highlights:
Welcome Address: Lindsay Greene, President and CEO of the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation, will kick off the forum.
Fireside Chat: A conversation with investor Taj Ahmad Eldridge, founder Lacey Reddix, and ecosystem builder Mike Hawthorne Jr., exploring how technologies and strategies led by Black and Brown leaders are redefining and expanding the landscape of climate technology.
Panel Discussion: Join BNYDC’s Lindsay Greene, along with citywide leaders from Governor's Island and NYCEDC, for a discussion on place-based deployment and the vital role of urban spaces in advancing the City’s Green Economy Action Plan.
This event is a unique opportunity to engage with a broad spectrum of leaders in climate innovation, including investors, government officials, startups, operators, developers, and manufacturing experts. Together, we will explore how diverse perspectives and community-driven approaches are essential to advancing climate solutions for a sustainable future.
If you would like to join the panel with Lindsay Greene as part of New Climate Futures please secure your tickets here and let us know when you do so we can inform their team to take you off the waitlist. You will not be able to access NewLab if you do not have tickets for New Climate Futures.
