What should an Ottawa Climate Week look like?
One of our organisers, Will Stockdale, recently came back from San Francisco Climate Week - a gathering of 17,000 climate enthusiasts at over 300 events in the bay area.
We’ll be hearing from Will about what was said in San Francisco and then we will be breaking out into groups to discuss what we would want to see from an Ottawa Climate Week.
What you can expect
There will be a fireside chat with Will about San Francisco to spark some ideas, but after that, we want to hear what you think!
We’ll be breaking out into smaller groups to discuss what we think an Ottawa Climate Week should look like. Each group will be facilitated by a Climate Leap organiser.
It will be an opportunity to share some of your thoughts on climate challenges, how they impact Ottawa, what you’d like to learn more about, and what solutions you’d like to see. We hope it will also spark some new conversations and connections between folks you haven’t met yet at Climate Leap events.
At the end of this, we hope to have collected some new, exciting ideas about how to collaborate on climate in the city.
We’re not committing to actually organising this Climate Week (yet), but maybe this is the first step…
The evening will look like this:
6:30 pm - Mingle and say hello
7-8 pm - Debrief from Will and discussion groups
8-8:30 pm - Socialize
Discussion Topics
San Francisco Climate Week is a loosely affiliated set of events organised across the whole city by a range of companies, organisations, non-profits, and government agencies. These events are on a diverse set of climate-related topics, across various formats including panel discussions, hikes, field trips to facilities, and social events. You can read more about it here.
Some of the questions we’ll discuss on 30 May for our hypothetical Ottawa Climate Week might include:
What should be the purpose of Ottawa Climate Week? Should it try and achieve anything specific?
Are there any topics you think should be the focus?
Are there any specific events you think should be held?
Are there any speakers or organisations you think should be heard from?
We look forward to hearing your thoughts!
