Innovation Precincts: Unlocking Healthy Aging, Sustainability and Civic Renewal
Could 'innovation precincts' be a new win-win-win, delivering healthy aging, environmental sustainability and civic renewal?
Join a dynamic conversation that discusses the latest trends in innovation precincts, and explores how they're becoming vital engines of broad-based intergenerational connection and could be a blueprint for an ambitious 'build' agenda.
This session brings together three global voices:
Stephen Johnston (Fordcastle, Melbourne), a leader in longevity innovation and digital ecosystems
Anupam Yog (WRLDCTY, Singapore), championing people-centered urban futures
Dr. Sarah Barns (WeCare, Storybox, RMIT, Sydney), reimagining data, care, and place-based storytelling
Together, they’ll share how cities - from Melbourne and Singapore to San Francisco - are rethinking urban design through the lens of aging well, social cohesion, and environmental resilience.
Drawing on the WeCare Melbourne workshop series and the global WRLDCTY agenda, the discussion will highlight:
How privacy-first data, Indigenous knowledge, and storytelling build inclusive public spaces
How older adults are catalysts of everyday innovation and civic creativity
How “living labs” are testing real-world solutions to aging, housing, and climate
How intergenerational communities can strengthen innovation ecosystems
Framing older adults as more than recipients of care or afterthoughts of urban design, this session will provide examples and expand thinking about how people of all ages can be active contributors - mentors, entrepreneurs, stewards of local culture, and agents of systemic change.
We’ll spotlight global examples and local prototypes that show how place-based innovation can support healthier, longer, more connected lives, interspecies thriving and support planetary boundaries.
This is more than a panel—it’s a blueprint for the next generation of inclusive cities where people and nature thrive.
