Stawamus Chief Hike (HARD)

​Get ready for an exhilarating adventure as we take on all three peaks of the Stawamus Chief! This will be the most challenging hike we've undertaken with VanCity Connect, and it's not for the faint of heart or those new to hiking. Located in Squamish, just an hour's drive from Vancouver, The Chief offers an intense experience with its steep climbs, rocky terrain, and breathtaking views that are truly worth the effort.

​We will tackle all three summits, beginning with a rigorous ascent up a series of wooden stairs alongside Oleson Creek. This sets the tone for the hike as we quickly gain elevation, reaching the first peak at 535 meters. From there, we continue on to the second peak at 580 meters, and finally, we’ll conquer the highest third peak at 627 meters. The total distance is approximately 6 kilometers, and the hike will take around 5 hours to complete, including breaks to rest and enjoy the stunning panoramic views of Howe Sound, Squamish, and the surrounding mountains.

​Please be aware that this hike is rated as moderate to challenging and involves sections with steep climbs, narrow ledges, and some scrambling, including the use of chain ropes to assist in the ascent. This hike is not suitable for beginners or those attempting their first hike. It requires previous hiking experience and a good level of fitness. It's essential to come prepared with adequate water, snacks, and proper hiking footwear to ensure your safety and comfort on the trail.
