EA Tech London: Cybersecurity for AI Safety
For this Effective Altruism Tech London meetup we are delving into the critical intersection of cybersecurity and AI safety.
As effective altruists in tech we believe one of the most positively impactful things we can contribute to is making sure the development of powerful AI goes well and avoids catastrophic risks.
A crucial part of this is cybersecurity. This includes preventing AI being misused for cyber attacks, securing AI agents from being hacked, and traditional cybersecurity for safe AI development.
We'll be hosting talks from Mahmoud Ghanem, the cyber misuse team lead at the UK government's AI Safety Institute, and Jonathan Happel, cofounder of TamperSec a hardware security startup protecting AI chips against physical attacks.
We'll also have discussions and some opportunities for one on one career advice. It will be a great opportunity to learn more about the space and hopefully be some inspiration to develop cybersecurity skills or apply any existing expertise to AI safety.
Snacks and drinks will be provided. We're trying something new and having a voluntary ticket price to cover costs. So pay as much or as little as you like. Any leftover money will be donated to a GiveWell charity.
Doors are from 7pm, talks from 8pm and we'll be kicked out around 10pm. Look forward to seeing you there!
