FMP Presents: Introduction to Backcasting
Backcasting is a strategic planning framework that flips the traditional forecasting method around. Rather than projecting future patterns based on current or past data, backcasting begins in the desired future and asks what must be true in order to arrive.
Backcasting can be a useful framework when thinking about large, macro initiatives or even on an individual level seeking orientation about personal goals and aspirations.
"Introduction to Backcasting" will be a cross between a presentation and conversation led by FMP and MOTF founder Amer Jandali. You will:
Learn the basic distinction between forecasting and backcasting
Practice applying it to your personal life
Explore sustainability principled backcasting in the context of corporate business strategy
Amer Jandali is an Adjunct Professor of Strategic Design and Management and Sustainable Business Models at Parsons. He also teaches Intro to Social Entrepreneurship 101 & 102 at John Jay College, holds a Masters in Design for Social Innovation from SVA NYC, is an impact advisor to the NYC Mayor's Office of Nightlife, and is certified in Climate Action for Business from UC Boulder LEEDS School of Business.
