Citizen Spotlight - #5: Town Team Movement (Australia)

​The Town Team Movement is a non-profit organisation in Australia that helps communities collaborate to improve public spaces and strengthen civic engagement. in us to find out more about how they set up, bumps along the way and plans for th future.

Founded in Perth in 2017, it has grown to include 164 Town Teams across Australia, New Zealand, the UK, and Poland. Most teams are in Western Australia, with others in Melbourne, Sydney, Tasmania, and Queensland.

​Town Teams consist of local residents, businesses, and landowners who partner with councils to create vibrant, connected places. Rather than advocacy, they focus on practical actions like street festivals, public art, and urban greening. Each team operates independently but follows shared values outlined in the Town Team Charter.

​The Town Team Movement offers resources, support, and inspiration to foster active citizenship and local improvements, creating thriving, well-connected communities.
