GALLERY WEEKEND 2025 ART WALK 1: Mitte-North (Eng.)
Join our art historians and art experts on exclusive guided tours through selected galleries. The Art Walks offer unique insights into current exhibitions, exciting artistic positions, and curatorial concepts.
This tour, led by Annika von Taube, begins at Dittrich & Schlechtriem. There, Zuzanna Czebatul critically engages with the aesthetics of political power and creates a conceptual reinterpretation of the Pergamon Altar. The next stop is Galerie Nagel Draxler with a dual focus: Nadya Tolokonnikova, co-founder of Pussy Riot, presents an immersive installation based on her two-year prison sentence, while Martha Rosler’s photographs at Nagel Draxler Kabinett capture anonymous urban spaces. At BQ, the rarely exhibited performance collective Brotherhood of New Blockheads is presented in a show curated by Daniel Baumann. The tour continues to Sprüth Magers, where Cyprien Gaillard explores contemporary visual culture in a 3D film, and Michail Pirgelis transforms discarded airplane parts into poetically minimalist sculptures. At Galerie EIGEN+ART, Nicola Samorì’s physically visceral reinterpretations of Baroque painting make a strong impression. Just a few steps away, neugerriemschneider presents new works by Thomas Bayrle, as well as a group exhibition themed around blurriness, haze, fog, smoke, and smog, featuring works by Isa Genzken, Simon Starling, Mario García Torres, and others. The tour concludes at Galerie Neu with SoiL Thornton’s multimedia engagement with systems of identity and institutional structures.
