"The Monstrosity of Christ": Weekend Intensive
Come gather on 6/7 and 6/8 for a weekend intensive where we will engage Slavoj Žižek and John Milbank's momentous debate in their collaborative text The Monstrosity of Christ (shoutout to Creston Davis for making such an encounter possible!).
With a subtitle like "Paradox or Dialectic?" this book sets the stage for a host of theological, philosophical, and political disagreements. Over the course of three extended live sessions, we will clarify and interrogate what is at stake in this debate between two of the most important theo-political thinkers of our time.
The weekend's schedule will look like:
Session #1 - Saturday, 6/7 @ 9 AM - Noon (Pacific)
Session #2 - Saturday, 6/7 @ 1 PM - 3 PM (Pacific)
Session #3 — Sunday, 6/8 @ 1 PM - 3 PM (Pacific)
Matthew Stanley will guide and facilitate the discussion. Matthew writes about philosophy, religion, and psychoanalysis at Samsara Diagnostics, and has published articles on Heidegger and the Kyoto School, Nick Land and Hegel, and a book on Shusaku Endo's Silence. He also serves on the board of the Sacramento Psychoanalytic Society.
