About Event

The past two years have seen many families become accidental homeschoolers, with traditional schools having to move to online mediums. This has been a rare opportunity for parents to experience what a different sort of education would look like and how this could work for their families.

However, for the families that have become ‘accidental homeschoolers’, there’s still a lot to learn and many hurdles to overcome.

Homeschooling veteran, Jamie Heston, hopes to help families in this transition process and share her wisdom on the common misconceptions that newer homeschooling families may have.

Jamie Heston is an experienced homeschooler, with over 14 years of experience homeschooling her own children as well as facilitating and being part of a number of homeschooling associations. Jamie is a homeschool community leader and consultant, and a current volunteer, and a former Board Member-Secretary/Treasurer for the Homeschool Association of California (HSC).

She has been a part of the legislative, newsletter, and conference teams for HSC. Jamie also moderates a local homeschool support group, Bay Area Gifted Homeschoolers, and is the founder of the Google support group Bay Area Homeschool Activity Scene (BAHAS). She is passionate about helping parents discover how to homeschool and is a proponent of self-directed learning.

In our upcoming event, Jamie addresses some common objections that newer homeschooling families face as well as some common misconceptions both newer and more experienced families might need to think about.
