About Event

Join People Who Thrive, a monthly gathering for goal-driven New Yorkers to find support, community, and new connections.

We often think that very successful people became that way because they put their heads down and put in the hours as they went after their goals. But hyper-independence is about as effective as cold-calling: having a support system and people who can give advice or make introductions is key to reaching your goals.

At each People Who Thrive gathering, a speaker talks for 10 minutes about a time in their life or their career when they asked for help. Then, everyone has one minute to address the group and share their elevator pitch, their “ask” (something they need help with), and an “offer” (a way they can be of service to others). When the floor is open for networking, it’s easy to walk right up to someone you can help or someone who can help you and strike up a conversation.

Hyper-independence is overrated; interdependence is how we make things happen.

This month's speaker is Kate Sieler. Kate is the co-founder and COO of Left Field, a new no-swipe dating app where your pool of people is who you cross paths with. Before starting Left Field, Kate graduated from Brown University and worked in strategy and operations at the Bridgespan Group and Almora Advisors. When she and her best friend Sam moved to NYC, they realized dating apps felt more like work than fun, and people their age were starting to give up on them. So they built what they wished existed: a way for Gen Z to connect in real time and bring back the spontaneous meet cute, with a little help from tech.

Come ready with your elevator pitch, your "ask," and an "offer" to share with the group, and quickly connect with people you can help and people who want to help you. Enjoy a self-serve cocktail and mocktail bar while meeting other go-getters who know they can't do it alone.

After the event, you can join the private People Who Thrive slack channel, where everyone can re-state their elevator pitch, ask, and offer after the event, making it easy to follow-up on new relationships and opportunities.

If the event ticket cost prevents you from being able to register, email event organizer Liz Winston at lizwinston2@gmail.com; three tickets are reserved for anyone who does not have the ability to pay at this time.

About event organizer Liz Winston: Liz Winston is a media and growth marketing strategist for startups by day and a community builder by night. She believes strongly that having a community is the difference between whether people thrive (or struggle in isolation), so she's launching People Who Thrive as a monthly event series to create a community for New Yorkers on self-propelled trajectories, building lives of their own design.
