ABOUT YOUR INSTRUCTOR
The Host Accelerator Program was originally launched as a guide sponsorship program through my company's charity, The Everyone Is Welcome Fund. We learned that although a candidate was passionate about hosting their communities on outdoor activities like hiking and camping, there were few resources to learn how. And there were even fewer opportunities to gain real-world experience as a guide for established tour operators, which is traditionally seen as the only path to becoming an outdoor guide. With the intention of increasing the ranks of outdoor recreation professionals while simultaneously increasing diversity within their ranks, the Host Accelerator Program was official launched in the fall of 2023 to instruct students on how to start and grow their own outdoor recreation business. The instructor is Al Berrios. Al is the founder of Outerthere, an outdoor recreation discovery platform and has hosted over 1,000 outdoor adventures since 2012. He is a former consultant and former adjunct professor at Baruch College's Zicklin School of Business.
