Creative Coding Bookclub - Chapter 0: Randomness
About this event
The Creative Coding Bookclub is a new event, facilitated by Mickey and Luis, in which we aim to actively work our way through writings that inspire the reader with practical coding challenges, while sharing our journey online and in-person.
In 2025 we plan to start with The Nature of Code (2024) by Daniel Shiffman - the Coding Train. This book brilliantly illustrates concepts that are recurrent in creative coding, and explain patterns to visually represent the behavior of natural systems, from inanimate objects to living beings, and the dynamics that emerge from their interactions.
To keep everyone in-sync our initial goal is to read at a pace of one chapter a month, this rhythm might change if attendants find one chapter particularly interesting or challenging. If you're a beginner and you follow along, you will gain practice with fundamentals that will prove useful in your future coding endeavors, and if you're an experienced developer this is a chance to recap some theory and a great opportunity to help others!
🌆 About the evening
We will discuss Chapter 0: Randomness. Everybody is invited to share, show, present, demo as well as asking question and raising issues, particularly if they've encountered struggle during the reading.
We will also have a look at the CCB website and to how to add your own sketches to it to make them accessible online to anyone.
Depending on time and interest, we might dive into some coding challenges.
🌸 About c3s & Bookclub
Creative coding crafts space embodies the notion of making space - physical space, head space, collaboration space - where we can get together and craft coding projects, generative artwork, new or ‘traditional’ forms of creative coding projects: anything that is born out of the interactions and inspiration that ‘space’ allows for.
We meet about once a month at Hackney Wick for our main event. The Creative Coding Bookclub is a new initiative suggested and ran by a couple of members of this lovely community!

🦜 Who is this for?
Anyone who is curious about creative coding, whether you are a beginner or a seasoned pro. Since the first meetups will start with introductory materials from 'The Nature of Code', you only need some basic previous experience of JavaScript to follow along.
