Gordian Happy Hour (June 12, 2024)
Come join what could be one of the last happy hours before AGI takes over. Hosted at 486 Cabot Rd on Wednesday, June 12th, Gordian Biotechnology, along with our co-tenants Character Bio and Deep Origin, are thrilled to be hosting Eric Nguyen, PhD student at Stanford who is working on artificial intelligence with applications in vision, language, and Biology. Advised by Steve Baccus in neurobiology, Chris Re in computer science and Brian Hie in Chemical engineering, Eric is using his diverse knowledge and skills as part of the Hazy Research team, as well as the Evo design lab, now at Arc Institute.
Eric will share his most recent preprint on Evo (https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2024.02.27.582234v1), a genomic foundation model that enables prediction and generation tasks from the molecular to genome scale. Evo is a massive model with 7 billion parameters, able to generalize across DNA, RNA and proteins. Eric and his collaborators demonstrated the use of Evo by generating synthetic CRISPR-Cas molecular complexes and entire transposable systems for the first time. And you can give them ideas for what to do next!
As always, our happy hour will also host scientists of various disciplines working in biotechnology and age-related diseases, from a host of companies, institutes and other organizations friendly with Gordian, Character and Deep Origin, not to mention academics, investors, and just people curious about biotechnology in general. Our events are meant to be open to the broader community, and you are welcome to invite friends and other guests.
