Questions from Partners e.g.
Ask clarifying questions in order to truly understand the business
Ask into the potential and new opportunities you see from your area of expertise
Ask into the risks and challenges that you see. Remember to also focus upon how-to create solutions together for these same risks.
Ask about the people behind the company: As you know, we appreciate 80/20 professional and personal connections at CVX. Hence we have good experience with also asking questions like:
We know that people invest (either time, money or both) in people - Who are you as a person?
Ask deeper and follow up questions: Notice which challenges the founder says lie ahead.
E.g. A company must present a commercial LOI (Letter Of Intent) with a customer before an institutional investor will invest. Try to put yourself in the shoes of the potential customer negotiating the LOI from the other side of the table:
What would be your remaining concern?
What is your recommendations to Founder overcoming this concern?
Share your anecdotes/stories/examples if they may be valuable to the founder to learn from. OBS! Being short and to the point is key here ;-)
