Extreme heat: investment strategies for the highest risk area of adaptation
2024 was the first year that the world exceeded 1.5 degrees C of warming, and was the warmest year on record.
Heat drives the largest number of climate-related deaths each year, is the largest climate concern for cities, and is expected to drive the largest financial costs for corporates.
Despite this, we have limited investment-related approaches to solve for growing heat-related issues. We need to think broader as a climate and energy community, and identify and help scale profitable solutions in this space.
Together, we’ll look to go beyond energy-efficient indoor cooling (and storage) trends and “get weird” to cover everything from urban infrastructure cooling (like reflective surfaces and pavements, green infrastructure), personal cooling wearables to combat heat stroke (especially for field workers), novel ways to generate (and reuse) water, robotics, fire and disaster detection and mitigation, and much more.

Streetlife Ventures (Laura Fox)
Streetlife Ventures invests in B2B pre-seed and seed startups at the intersection of cities and climate across five main sectors: buildings, energy, mobility and logistics, waste and water, and adaptation. We also partner with real estate developers, OEMs, and infrastructure groups to de-risk urban climate solutions and accelerate a startup's path to commercialization.
Jetstream invests in pre-seed startups that accelerate prosperity. Founding partner Tommy Leep works with founders from the earliest stages and helps them grow with his Silicon Valley-based network. Jetstream has invested in over 50 startups improving our health, wealth, and resilience.
