Greg Roebuck - The Entrepreneur's Journey

​We are so proud to have an amazing Aussie founder re-visiting the Liven team as the second special guest speaker of the Liven Builds Guest Series. Greg Roebuck built the automotive-sales juggernaut Carsales.com.au, Australia’s 1# automotive website, from the ground up over 20 years to become the billion dollar international success that it is today. His is a story of passion, grit and innovation that transformed the way Australians buy and sell cars. 

​Greg's Background
A true tech-head from childhood, Greg started playing with computers as a kid before pursuing a career as a software developer. He developed a spare parts trading network that linked together hundreds of automotive dealers and formed the basis of an inventory management system that eventually evolved into Carsales.

​Greg co-founded Carsales in 1997 and spent nine years as the CEO. During this time his leadership took the business from a loss-making tech startup into a publicly-listed success story in the ASX top 100 with a multi-billion dollar market capitalisation. A pioneer of the Australian internet revolution, he saw a vision of a digital future earlier than most and stuck to his guns despite numerous challenges. 

​Carsales is now operating across 9 countries in multiple languages and has greatly diversified its product offering. The company employs more than 600 people and remains on the forefront of Australian digital innovation, thanks in no small part to the culture Greg worked tirelessly to put in place during his time at the helm. 

​Greg stepped away from Carsales in 2017 to take some leisure time but his passions for cars and tech have found him taking on various roles in the space. He now Chairs Pentana Solutions which provides dealer management systems; Chargefox, an ultra-rapid EV charging network company; and is a non-executive Director of Walkinshaw Automotive Group.
