About Event

Effective Altruism is a global community of people and organizations who are trying to solve the world's most pressing problems.

Join us for an exciting talk by Anders Sandberg, Senior Research Fellow at the Future of Humanity Institute.

Grand Futures - What Are the Technological Limits of Civilization?

Anders will outline his project of mapping the limits of what advanced civilizations can achieve – in terms of survival, expanding in space, computation, mastery over matter and energy – and how this interacts with different theories about what truly has value.

Anders has a background in computer science, neuroscience and medical engineering. He obtained his Ph.D. in computational neuroscience from Stockholm University, Sweden, for work on neural network modelling of human memory.

His research at the Future of Humanity Institute centres on management of low-probability high-impact risks, estimating the capabilities of future technologies, and very long-range futures.
