Overview: Writing is not just a form of expression; it's a powerful tool for reclaiming narratives, preserving legacies, and fostering healing and empowerment. For women of African descent aged 50 and above, writing holds particular significance as a means of reclaiming their voices, documenting their experiences, and shaping the narrative of their lives. In this eight-module virtual writing masterclass, we will delve into the importance of writing for black women over 50 and provide a transformative journey of self-discovery, empowerment, and creative expression.

Module 1: Embracing HerStory - March 23, 2024 (19:30 -20:30 GMT)

  • This module sets the foundation by exploring the importance of storytelling for women of African descent aged 50 and above. Participants will reflect on the significance of documenting their experiences and reclaiming their narratives.

  • What to Expect: Engaging discussions, reflective exercises, and storytelling prompts to kickstart the journey of self-discovery and empowerment.

Module 2: Discovering Identity and Heritage (Sat. 30 March 2024 - 30 -20:30 GMT)

  • Description: This module delves into the exploration of identity and heritage, encouraging participants to reconnect with their roots, cultural heritage, and ancestral wisdom.

  • What to Expect: Guided meditations, ancestral storytelling, and writing prompts to uncover layers of identity and heritage.

Module 3: Healing Through Writing (Sat. April 6 2024, 19:30 -20:30 GMT)

  • This module explores the therapeutic power of writing for black women over 50, offering tools and techniques for processing emotions, healing past wounds, and fostering resilience.

  • What to Expect: Journaling exercises, guided writing prompts, and group discussions on the healing journey through writing.

Module 4: Amplifying Voices (Sat. April 13 2024 - 19:30-20:30 GMT)

  • This module focuses on amplifying the voices of black women over 50, addressing the challenges of representation and visibility in mainstream media and literature.

  • What to Expect: Empowering discussions, guest speakers, and writing exercises aimed at reclaiming space and amplifying marginalized voices.

  • This final module celebrates the culmination of the writing journey, honoring participants' stories, achievements, and newfound sense of empowerment.
