The Future of Carbon: Technology vs. Nature-based Solutions
Presented by the UBC Sauder Centre for Climate and Business Solutions | Part of #PNWClimateWeek
Carbon management is at a turning point. As pressure grows to deliver high-integrity, permanent carbon removal, two pathways are emerging—technology-based solutions like direct air capture and carbon mineralization, and nature-based approaches like reforestation and soil carbon. Each comes with trade-offs around cost, scalability, co-benefits, and permanence.
This conversation explores where we’re headed. Are we backing the right solutions? Can we trust the markets to deliver quality? And how can we balance innovation with integrity as we scale carbon removal in a rapidly evolving landscape?
