Meta-therapy group discussion with Max & Chris
Let’s talk about comparing the many forms of therapy. Group discussion.
Note: This event is for people who have tried multiple (2+) distinct therapy modalities. This event is not well-suited for those who are just starting therapy or trying to determine which therapy is best for them.
Modalities e.g.: Coherence Therapy, IFS, Gendlin’s Focusing, Somatic Experiencing, EMDR, EmRes, DBT, various forms of Buddhism, various forms of meditation, Alexander Technique, talk therapy, CBT, hypnotherapy, classical psychotherapy, Adlerian Psychology, ….
We don’t have experience with all of these, but it would be cool if the group had at least one person with experience with each! Invite your therapy friends!
Questions:
How would philosophy of science have to change so different therapy modalities could be compared? Because RCTs don’t seem to fit here.
Is it the case that as long as a particular form of therapy has all of the basic ingredients of Coherence Therapy (ie: memory reconsolidation), that the details don’t matter?
Should we expect a new therapy to come along in the next 10 years that’s 20x better?
How quickly should we expect different modalities to have effects? For example, psychotherapy often has results never, and somatic practices often have results in mere hours.
What role do we want therapy to play in our society? Our society seems to want therapy to patch systemic problems that therapy might not be able to address.
What are the limits that any of these interventions could do?
Would most social problems be solved if 10% of people were experts in Coherence Therapy?
…
