ARTIST SPOTLIGHT
Born in Canada and raised in Australia, Jessie Monk began to love music and dancing at an early age. In Melbourne she played, among other things, in David Bowie's musical “Lazarus”, and now she has moved permanently to one of Bowie's cities, Berlin. Folk, gypsy jazz, and indie with a pinch of Dolly Parton - that's how Jessie Monk describes her music and it fits very well. The musician tries out complex melodic escapades in singing, which already shows a lot of vocal power.
A self-proclaimed purveyor of 'gentle folk' Hayfitz crafts delicate songs about the most delicate of subjects. Newly based in Berlin by-way-of Brooklyn, this multi-instrumentalist has spent his early career practicing exercises in ultimate vulnerability, diving head-first into microscopic memories and breaking down the technicalities of song structure for richer soundscapes. Telling the story of his queer identity and unrequited love, he touches on feelings of confusion, separation, hope, resilience, and reconciliation.
Emily Nyhuus, the woman behind the tongue-in-cheek name Reveal Party, writes songs about existing in a chaos of complicated emotions, and how one might have to cut them off completely when they become too hard to handle. »Cut your feelings, like me« is the quiet advice given on the opening track from her debut EP ‘You Stole a Year of My Life’, that established Reveal Party as one of the strongest new acts on the Danish music scene and gained praise and attention from both Danish and international media.
