Get more LPs
Are you an angel investor who has a great investment track record and planning to start a VC fund? Or perhaps a VC thinking of striking out on your own? Or an emerging fund manager about to raise Fund II? This event is for you.
There has never been a more exciting time to start a venture fund.
Emerging industries like Web3 and AI have lead to unprecedented innovation. Remote work culture enables startups to source talent globally. And the explosion of startup ecosystems in emerging markets give investors opportunities at low valuations.
It's also never been harder to raise a venture fund.
With 1,000s of VC funds out there (and more launching all the time), the competition for LP support is incredibly steep.
So, how to stand apart from the crowd? How to find enough LPs to fill your round?
We're on a journey to answer those exact questions. And that's why we're hosting "Get More LPs", a web summit that tackles this issue from 4 different perspectives.
We'll cover:
nailing your pitch with Eric Bahn (Hustle Fund VC)
building your brand with Sophia Amoruso (Trust Fund VC)
raising from family offices with Dave Sachse (Family VC)
raising in public with Mac Conwell (RareBreed Ventures)
Nailing your pitch
What do LPs care about when they hear a pitch from a VC?
1) dealflow
2) differentiation
3) founder support
Your pitch needs to nail all three of these topics quickly and in a way that's super compelling.
No pressure, right?
Luckily, we have a secret weapon: Eric Bahn, GP and co-founder of Hustle Fund. Eric has lead the charge on all three of Hustle Fund's raises ($100m+ in total). He's also helped hundreds of portfolio companies with their fundraises.
Eric has cracked the code on what makes a world-class pitch to an LP. And he's sharing his tips (and taking your questions) in this session.
Building your brand
One of the most compelling ways to win LPs is to have unbeatable dealflow channels. To do that, you've gotta have a big brand. Founders won't seek you out for funding if they don't know you exist.
For this session, we're bringing in the big guns: Sophia Amoruso, founder of Nasty Gal ($100m in rev), Girlboss (23m downloads), and Business Class (3k students). She's a NYT best-selling author, and is now GP and founder of Trust Fund VC.
To say that Sophia is a brand-builder is an understatement. Her businesses have repeatedly taken the world by storm.
In this session, Sophia will share her strategies for building a brand that will attract founders like bees to honey... and that your future LPs can't help but admire.
Raising from family offices
For most fund managers, raising from family offices will be a big part of your fundraising strategy. But there's a problem.
Family offices are notoriously hard to find. And even harder to pitch. AND they can be tricky to work with. Unless you have the inside scoop.
That's why we're bringing in Dave Sachse. Dave is the managing partner of his own family's fund, which invests in early-stage startups as well as VCs. Dave is also the founder of Family VC, a community of 100+ family offices.
Suffice to say that Dave is fully-immersed in the family office scene.
In this session, Dave will share tactical strategies around meeting, pitching, and working effectively with family offices.
Pitching in public
The SEC has strict regulations around what an investor can and cannot say publicly while fundraising.
However. There is a workaround that allows investors to bypass those rules and raise as loudly and publicly as they want.
Most investors opt to follow the traditional fundraising method and keep their raise quiet. But McKeever Conwell, II (aka Mac) took a different approach. He raised in public.
By leveraging twitter, Mac raised $10m for RareBreed Ventures, a pre-seed fund for "exceptional founders".
If you don't have dozens of LPs on speed dial, raising in public might be a great option for you. But how to do it right? How to attract LPs that you'll want to work with for decades? And how to position your fund to a bunch of strangers on the internet?
These are the kinds of topics we'll dive into with Mac.
