

Bridging Zen and Chan by Máté Borda
After our Sunday morning meditation, we are excited to offer a talk by short-term resident, Máté Borda. In this talk, Máté will share his personal experiences from Rinzai Zen and his three-month journey practicing Chan at the Tallahassee Chan Center. He will highlight key differences and similarities between the two traditions, offering insights into how sustained practice and the teachings of both paths have shaped his spiritual growth.

Máté will join us in-person at the Tallahassee Chan Center (1310 N Paul Russell Rd, Tallahassee, FL 32301), and the talk will be concurrently offered on Zoom
Máté Borda was born in 1983 in Hungary and holds dual master's degrees in economics and religious studies. He has been working as a journalist in Budapest and his home town of Kecskemét. He began practicing Zen in 2008 under the guidance of Jeff Shore, and has since become Jeff's interpreter during retreats in Hungary. Mate has committed to a sustained practice, having participated in a variety of retreats, including a three-week retreat at Jeff Shore's hermitage in Kyoto. He has been a short-term resident at the Tallahassee Chan Center for the past three months, deepening his practice and learning Chan under the guidance of GuoGu.
