Design Justice Playdate
This beginner level workshop will take participants through all the tools and functions of Adobe Photoshop, explore sweatshop-free merchandise design as a tool for mutual aid, the origins of graphic design, how to design for housing accessibility, and more. This workshop is taught from the frameworks of design justice, anti-imperialist design histories, maximalism, everyday and omnipresent design, surrealism, and hacking.
Attendees will leave fluent in photoshop, with resources for exploring typography, product design, merchandise fulfillment, web design, graphic design history, and more. Zero experience necessary.
LOCATION: Workshop will be held at Hex House, in East Williamsburg off of the Grand L Stop. Exact Address to be sent 48 hours before.
MATERIALS NEEDED: Attendees should bring a laptop with Adobe Photoshop downloaded beforehand. Adobe offers a free 30-day trial then is $23/mo after for two devices (can be split between two users). Students and staff at colleges typically have free institutional logins.
MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR: Sonia is a creative director, graphic & apparel designer, and multidisciplinary artist based in NY. Sonia’s work explores playfulness, maximalism, and design justice through the creation of everyday objects.
