About Event

Join us on Friday, March 28 at Ours to get together, read and celebrate the first issue of “Chameleon”, a collaborative VCUarts GDES graduates’ publication. There will be readings by Aya Khalife, Molly Garrett, Rasim Bayramov, Tariye George-Phillips and music by Yvonne LeBien.

In tandem, publisher nico fontana will be hosting Ijsmaaker to provide a tasty edition to the evening.

About Chameleon

Chameleon is an annual group publication created by graduate students in VCU’s Graphic Design MFA program. Rooted in the notion of change and adaptation, the publication takes its name from the chameleon—an organism that transforms through color. This marks the inaugural edition of Chameleon, with this year’s color being Orange 021U.

About nico fontana

nico fontana is a publisher based in Richmond Virginia that distributes queer artists, designers, and writers who love language.

About IjsMaaker

Paul John developed a practice of making ice cream and hosting ice cream socials while he was the Coordinator of Printing and Publishing at the Jan van Eyck Academie from 2021–2023. There he frequently collaborated with artists from around the globe in hopes of translating their history into an ice cream flavor. Sometimes, the translation is quite literal - a childhood memory of some food or flavor. Other times, the translation was metaphorical, trying to emulate shooting stars, or a warm bed to sleep on.

IjsMaaker was born as a parody, while in the Netherlands, Paul found himself confronted with more traditional ideologies that conflicted with the presentation that the Dutch were very progressive. As a tongue-in-cheek manner, IjsMaaker is misspelled, and actually a poor translation of Ice Cream Maker, a nod to the confidence or absolutism he encountered while living abroad.
