Saint Heron Presents: Go Slow
This event explores the African diaspora and the evolution of music and art through a futuristic lens, rooted in Houston’s musical legacy—especially the lasting impact of Chopped and Screwed.
It also honors the influence of Houston’s Nigerian and African communities in shaping this cultural dialogue. We invite you to create a set that resonates with and expands on these themes.
The evening highlights Houston’s vibrant Nigerian community—over 30,000 strong—through sound, dance, and immersive storytelling. Alief, in particular, stands as a cultural hub.
Featured artist Dozie Kanu, a Nigerian-American Houston native, will debut a sculptural interpretation of the Mothership, inspired by Parliament-Funkadelic’s Mothership Connection—Live from Houston(1986).
Paris-based DJ and artist Crystallmess traces the lineage of Black southern electronic music, blending Houston and West African sounds. Local DJs HYPERFEMME and Big Ace anchor the night in the city’s rich, genre-fluid sonic landscape.
