About Event

As AI governance gains traction in international policy circles, policymakers are increasingly looking towards physical computational resources (such as data centers and the semiconductor supply chain) as crucial policy levers for governing AI. The sub-field of AI governance concerned with the regulation of the physical resources necessary for developing AI systems is known as compute governance.

This briefing will introduce audience members to the concept of compute governance, and will feature two experts, Robert Trager, Co-Director of the Oxford Martin AI Governance Initiative, and Lennart Heim, information scientist at RAND, discussing what an international reporting regime for AI developers and compute providers might look like, and how the international system can help harmonize compute governance efforts.

The presentations will be followed by SI leadership contextualizing the insights within the framework of international AI governance efforts, as well as an open discussion and audience Q&A.

Complimentary breakfast will be served.
