SoTA's Rebooting State Capacity Hackathon
The Society for Technological Advancement (SoTA)'s next hackathon on 26-27th April will accelerate and apply science & tech to reimagine government. Following It’s Time to Build… in Government, we were met with a clear response from our community, How can we actually contribute right now?
Rebooting State Capacity is our answer to that question: The opportunity to ship a new capability solving a real problem over a weekend, with direct feedback from end users, frontline operators, and potential adopters across critical public functions.
The hack will bring together SoTA's researchers, scientists, developers, engineers, and technologists who want to apply their abilities to creating functional capabilities for essential government operations (defence/security, health, transport, education, infrastructure) or otherwise reinventing government to capitalise on the opportunities generated by technological progress.
On Day 1 (Saturday 26th), we will have interactive sessions on Hacking Public Procurement for Startups and Securely Building Products with Sensitive Data. On Day 2 (Sunday 27th), presentations and awards will take place in the early afternoon.
Prizes are £1,000, £500 and £250, with an additional (stackable) Basis Prize of £1,000 for the best demo Outcompeting the Government — creating a commercially viable alternative to a public service.
