About Event

Soapbox Project, Amrūt, Rethink Food, and Climate Cafe NYC are so excited to welcome you to our January plant-based supper club.

We can't wait you invite you to a joyful community space where you can connect, learn, and take action towards a more resilient future.

What to expect

We'll welcome you to an evening of vibrant, nourishing, and seasonal food. You'll get a four-course meal, where each course is paired with a climate action prompt.

Here's what's on the menu for the night:

  • plant-based dishes crafted from locally sourced and upcycled ingredients (food that would have otherwise gone to waste)

  • a nourishing meal, great company, and thoughtful conversation prompts

  • a learning session with an Kim Macharia who will teach you about climate futurism in NYC

  • a guided climate advocacy exercise that connects you with your local representatives

  • a community chat that helps you continue conversations with your new friends and take bite-sized actions together in the future

Topic: What's climate futurism? We will examine how humanity can adapt, innovate, and build sustainable systems for a climate-altered future. This includes exploring what a sustainable, liveable future could look like and how we can take inspiration for our climate action today

Location: Rethink Food Sustainable Community Kitchen, 116 W Houston Street (upcycled food will be sourced by them!)

Date & time: Thursday, January 16th, 6-9pm. Dinner service will start at 6:30pm sharp, so please try to arrive on time

Purpose: Deepen your connection with the place you live and the people around you so we can transform our climate anxiety and loneliness into meaningful action. Also, have fun!

Price: $80 general admission, $40 for Soapbox members (you can join our membership here)

Includes: Dinner, connection activities, expert guest speakers, advocacy tips, and the general feeling that you're not alone in this world

About our speaker

Kim Macharia is the Founder of Brave Leap, a social impact firm that uses the wonder of exploration to inspire engagement in environmental stewardship. Prior to launching Brave Leap, she served as Executive Director of Space Prize, began her career in the space industry managing community relations for startups. She has worked on a range of projects driving the future of the space economy forward including projects related to space situational awareness and human spaceflight. Kim has also had the privilege of representing companies at international events including the UN World Space Forum. Throughout her career she has made a concerted effort to advocate for marginalized communities and create pathways for nontraditional actors to engage in the growing space economy.

Kim is deeply passionate about diversifying and democratizing the industries that our vital to how our world operates. In addition to her work in the space sector, Kim also consults on grant program and inclusion initiatives in the agriculture and maritime sector
