Blended Worlds: Experiments in Interplanetary Imagination w David Delgado, NASA JPL
How might newly imagined tools of empathy and connectedness reshape the ways we engage with the natural world?
In this talk, David will discuss how this question led to the development of JPL's Blended Worlds: Experiments in Interplanetary Imagination project, created as part of Getty's PST: Art & Science Collide Initiative, in collaboration with the City of Glendale, currently on view at the Brand Library and Art Center. Blended Worlds explores the landscape of human relationships with our ever-expanding environment.
Through a series of art and science collaborations, the exhibit presents a vision of the future, inviting us to consider how newly imagined tools of empathy and connectedness might reshape the ways we engage with the natural world.
A documentary following the development of Blended Worlds was recently released on PBS ARTBOUND.
Meet David Delgado
David is the Lead Investigator for JPL's Blended Worlds: Experiments in Interplanetary Imagination project, part of Getty's PST: Art & Science Collide Initiative. His notable past collaborations include the Visions of the Future poster series; Orbit, an audio installation allowing visitors to listen to satellites passing overhead; and Metamorphosis, an interactive comet sculpture inviting visitors to walk through a tail of water vapor. He previously co-led NASA’s Imagine Mars Project, a STEAM-based "boot camp for the imagination" where students collaborated with NASA scientists and engineers to envision design solutions for living on Mars. David is a graduate of UCLA and Art Center College of Design.
